Love at the L.I.T.
In the bedroom, a mother gives birth, breastfeeds her child, the mother or the father watches it, caresses it, talks to it. Mutual pleasure. An emotional bond is created, engraved in their memories for life.
In the bedroom, a couple. An unexplained attraction, vague childhood recollection… A voice, a perfume, a look, a caress, bodies touching, a long and tender kiss. Mutual pleasure. An emotional bond is created or perpetuated. Wanting to go further. Erection, orgasm, pleasure rediscovered. Love for oneself, love for the other, love for the others, outside…
In the brains, in the blood, a hormone released modulates or expresses each of these feelings, each of these behaviours. Oxytocin is not Love but one of its messengers, arrow of Eros, Philia and Agape…
Researching in order to understand and care for the Living, understand the body, the heart, love… this is the mission the researchers from the LIT (therapeutic innovation laboratory) are devoted to. They are particularly interested in oxytocin, a hormone conserved in every animal species and involved in every process necessary for the survival of a species. A mime of this hormone could help autistic individuals decipher the emotional world that surrounds them and enjoy a better life. But could such a molecule be used as The Perfume of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Patrick Süskind), the Love potion of Tristan and Isolde, the Soma of Brave New World (Aldous Huxley) ? Fire that warms or fire that burns, should one imagine Prometheus happy ?
