Snecma group

Snecma is one of the world’s leading aerospace companies, operating in two core businesses: Propulsion and Equipment.

It is the only engine manufacturer in the world to apply all propulsion technologies, spanning commercial aircraft, military transport, training and combat aircraft, helicopters, missiles, satellites and launch vehicles. It is also a European leader in aircraft systems and equipment.

In 2000, Snecma generated sales of 5.65 billion euros, up 16 percent on 1999, and net income of 318 million euros, 23 percent over 1999. Sales for 2001 are projected at 6.9 billion euros.

Snecma’s customer list comprises the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers and prime contractors, including Airbus, Arianespace, Boeing, BAE Systems, Bombardier, Dassault Aviation, EADS, Embraer, Eurocopter, Eurofighter, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Sikorsky, along with more than 1,700 airlines, helicopter operators and armed forces around the world.

Propulsion

Working alone or in international partnerships, Snecma holds world and European leadership positions in most of its propulsion markets:

  • Civil aviation, with the CFM56 turbofan family, powering Airbus and Boeing jetliners.

  • Military aviation, through the M88 (Rafale), M53 (Mirage 2000), Atar (Mirage 50 and F1), Larzac (Alpha Jet and MiG-AT) and Adour (Hawk and Jaguar).

  • Helicopters, with the Arriel, Arrius and Makila turboshaft engines that power most rotorcraft in the Eurocopter line, along with the RTM322 (EH 101 Merlin, NH 90, Apache) and the MTR390 (Tiger).
  • Launch vehicles, with the Viking and HM7B (Ariane 4), Vulcain 2 and Vinci rocket engines and the MPS solid rocket motor (Ariane 5).

  • Strategic missiles (French nuclear deterrent force), tactical missiles (Mistral), cruise missiles (Apache/Storm Shadow, Sea Eagle), drones, UAVs, etc.

  • Satellites and space vehicles, including thrusters for a number of satellites (Spot, Helios, telecom satellites, etc.) and the ATV, which will ferry supplies to the International Space Station.

  • Snecma provides full 24x7 aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service for customers around the world.

    Equipment

Snecma is also one of the world’s leading suppliers of aircraft and spacecraft systems and equipment. It holds world or European leadership positions in each of its sectors: landing gear, braking systems, wheels and brakes, engine nacelles, thrust reversers and control systems, power transmissions, wiring, composite materials, etc.

In addition, Snecma deploys an international network with more than 1,200 skilled professionals to provide full MRO support for all landing systems.
