| Geneviève
Berger, Director General of the CNRS, launched the CNRS Investors Club on
February 25, 2003. Both flexible and informal, this club will provide a
forum for the CNRS and investors to exchange ideas and discuss issues. Its
creation follows that of the Entrepreneurs Club last November and is in
keeping with the CNRS policy of outreach toward the socio-economic realm.
This initiative has been extremely well received by investors. There have
been over a hundred requests to participate since the announcement was made. The aim of the CNRS Investors Club is to provide a meeting ground for people with innovative business projects and investors and to promote exchanges. This club is targeted at individual investors known as business angels and venture capital investment firms with an eye to start-up technology companies. It will provide them access to business development projects proposed by the CNRS and its research partners. The club will also serve as a direct link to the CNRS network of scientific experts. The CNRS plays an active role in the application and transfer of research results. The implementation of this initiative is particularly well illustrated by the increasing number of companies using the technologies and know-how of laboratories under the auspices of the CNRS. By celebrating the one hundredth start-up in June 2002, Geneviève Berger made a commitment to develop links between the CNRS and innovative start-up companies and helping the creators of businesses to find financing. With the Entrepreneurs Club created last November and the Investors Club launched on February 25, 2003, the CNRS thus provides a forum for privileged exchanges in order to fulfill these objectives.
