Framework agreement signed between the CNRS and the CNRS in Lebanon

26 juin 2015

On January 27, 2015, the CNRS and the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon (CNRS-L) signed a framework agreement for scientific cooperation, which should help secure and structure new collaborations in the form of International Programs for Scientific Cooperation (PICS), International Research Networks (GDRI) and International Associated Laboratories (LIA).

Three programs were singled out :

  • research on the targeted treatment of leukemia (LIA ATL) with the University of Beyrouth ;
  • the future launch of a French-Lebanese Environmental Observatory (O-LiFE) to study the impact of climate change around the Mediterranean ;
  • a radiotherapy research scheme with the various institutions in Lebanon (including Saint Joseph University).

The country, which finalized its first framework agreement with the CNRS in 1979, is one of the organization’s main research partners in the southern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
