A workshop on the scientific opportunities enabled by X-ray Free Electron Lasers (XFELs) will take place in Paris on the 11th and 12th of December 2017.
Scientific contaxt
This workshop, which is organized within the framework of the annual meeting of the GDRi XFEL-Science, follows the official opening of the European XFEL in Hamburg on September 1st and the subsequent realization of the first successful experiments at this novel European large scale research infrastructure.
The workshop will give an overview on recent XFEL science highlights covering the different scientific domains pursued at these facilities proving femtosecond short, ultra-bright X-ray pulses. With four XFEL sources European scientists are uniquely positioned to play a major role in this rapidly growing research areas and a presentation of these four sources will complement the program.
The workshop is open to all researchers, biologists, chemists and physicists interested in learning more about these new X-ray facilities and the experimental opportunities they provide. A workshop session will be dedicated to the discussion of the needs of scientists from French laboratories to realize cutting edge research programs at XFEL facilities.
With this announcement contributions are solicited from researchers who have already realized experiments at XFEL facilities or intend to do so. Presentations on related theoretical research are equally welcomed.
The workshop will take place at Campus de Jussieu, 4 Place Jussieu, 75005 Paris on the 11th and 12th of December 2017. The exact location will be given soon.
