11.02.13 TWO GROUP LEADER POSITIONS OPEN AT THE DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY INSTITUTE OF MARSEILLE CNRS/ AIX-MARSEILLE UNIVERSITY, FRANCEThe Developmental Biology Institute of Marseille (IBDM) is a leading research institute inEurope, with a unique focus on the study of developmental systems with interdisciplinary approaches using a wide range of animal models (Drosophila, Xenopus, C. elegans, chick, rat and mouse). Created in 2006, the IBDM is composed of 19 research groups and 5 scientific core facilities and benefits from the rich scientific environment of the Luminy campus of Aix-Marseille University. The overall research activity developed at the IBDM is at the crossroads of different fields: cell biology, development, evolution, neurobiology, physiology and biophysics. The connections and complementarity between these themes result in a strong scientific coherence of the research projects developed in the differen teams. The main questions addressed from different perspectives are to understand how the instructions encoded in the genome are interpreted and translated to build structures (cells, tissues, organs) that perform specific functions, how these processes are regulated and integrated at the level of the whole organism and how their deregulation can lead to pathologies. A priority is to favor interdisciplinarity through the integration of new and original approaches that create conceptual and technical interfaces. We are looking for outstanding candidates who will complement the existing strengths of the Institute. Scientific excellence will be given the highest priority in the selection of the successful candidate. Junior and senior applicants will be considered; these are nonteaching positions and knowledge of French is not required. One position is for a group with expertise in quantitative biology. Theoretical physicists or applied mathematicians working on questions related to cell and developmental biology are encouraged to apply. This position is supported by a competitive 5 years start-up package financed by an interdisciplinary research network in the campus (the INFORM Labex, http://labexinform.wordpress.com). The candidate is expected to develop projects in strong interaction with IBDM and Labex groups. For the second position, the successful candidate is expected to develop an innovative, internationally competitive research program in any area of integrative biology. The candidate will support his research by extramural funding such as ERC, ATIP-Avenir or ANR
DEAD-LINE FOR APPLICATIONS : before the 15th March, 2013. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae with publication list, a 2 page summary of research
