French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (“Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et Automatique” – INRIA)
The French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (INRIA) manages a more finalized research than the CNRS. It employs a certain number of mathematicians and is involved in mathematics through some of the projects which structure its activity. Researchers from university or CNRS are often associated with these projects, which are even sometimes hosted by the laboratories at universities.
The INRIA, which is under joint supervision of the Ministries of Research and Industry, is meant to undertake fundamental and applied research within the area of sciences and technologies for information and communication (STIC). The institute also provides an important transfer of technology by ensuring a special attention to training through research ; to dissemination of scientific and technical information ; to the development, the expertise and the participation in international programs.
The INRIA is a major player in terms of the development of the STIC in France. It develops numerous partnerships with the industry sector and promotes the transfer of technology as well as the setting up of companies within this field. Finally it keeps close international relationships in Europe and throughout the world.
