The goal of the Research Federation Denis Poisson (FDP) is to bring together the skills in mathematics and theoretical physics of the french region "Centre" in a, nationally and internationally renowned, scientific body, which acts as a catalyst for multidisciplinary collaborations.

The FDP (FR 2964) comprises the following laboratories :
- The MAPMO (Laboratoire Mathématiques et Applications, Physique Mathématique d’Orléans - UMR 6628)
- The LMPT (Laboratoire de Mathématiques et Physique Théorique de l’Université François Rabelais de Tours - UMR 6083))

The aim of the federation is :

- to construct a common science policy in mathematics and theoretical physics between the universities of Orleans and Tours, while paying heed to the diversity and the specificity of the research particular to each laboratory ;

- to stimulate collaboration and research projects between researchers and academics of both laboratories ;

- to stimulate and support activity infolving scientific teams of the federation as well as other teams, as was done with the PPF "Modeling and Scientific Calculus", begun in January 2004, which shall be a model for further project ;

- to coordinate graduate studies in mathematics and theoretical physics, support projects of codirected theses and favour graduate programs involving both specialities, such as the Master 2 "Analyse Mathématique et Applications" which succeeded in 2004 the common DEA created in 1983 ;

- to coordinate international relations and invitation of foreign researchers ;

- to develop internal communications (digital and audio-visual, common Ph.D. students and PPF days) as well as external communications (to the general public, local or regional authorities, private enterprises) ;

- to manage the common documentary and computer resources.
