Research support organizations

Research units, service units or parts thereof can form a Service Network (GDS), in order to group part, or the whole, of their resources to achieve a common goal. The members of a Service Network preserve their own individuality.

CNRS has created two GDS alloted to the Mathematics :

- Mathrice, a network of computer engineers working in mathematical laboratories (GDS 2754)
- RNBM, the National Mathematical Libraries Network (GDS 2755)

The Joint Service Units (UMS) are formed by the CNRS with an other organization, in order to support research. For Mathematics there are four UMS :
- The Henri Poincaré Institute (IHP, UMS 839)
- Jacques Hadamard library CADIST (UMS 1786)
- Mathdoc, a group for the documentary resources coordination (UMS 5638)
- International Center for Mathematical Meetings (CIRM, UMS 822)

Finally, the International Center for Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA) located in Nice, and created on a recommendation from UNESCO, is another organization designed to support research.
