Signing ceremony for the creation of the " Interdisciplinary Scientific Center Poncelet " - ISCP in Moscow

6 June 2017

A high-level delegation of CNRS, led by the Director of the Institute of Physics, was received at the Residence of the French Ambassador in Moscow on May 22, 2017.

On this occasion was signed the agreement establishing the Interdisciplinary Scientific Center Poncelet (ISCP).

The ISCP combines the CNRS and five Russian partner institutions - the Independent University of Moscow, the Higher School of Economics, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and two Institutes associated with the Russian Academy of Sciences ─ the Steklov Institute of Mathematics and the AA Kharkevich Institute for Problems of Transmission of Information.

The ISCP was created on the basis of the Poncelet Laboratory, a French-Russian “International Joint Unit” (UMI) in mathematics created in 2006. During its 10 years of existence, the Poncelet Laboratory has played an important role in the scientific life in Moscow, as a platform of cooperation and a "center of crystallization" of the French-Russian collaborations.

The creation of the ISCP reinforces the expansion of the scientific scope of the UMI and the shift from its center of gravity to theoretical physics.
Its two main objectives are:

  • to conduct joint research projects in the fields of basic and applied mathematics, theoretical physics and computer science ;
  • to become a showcase for this research, by promoting exchanges of knowledge between the main Russian and French scientific centers, through conferences, scholarships, stays and internships for young researchers.
