Adeline NazarenkoDirector of the Institute for Information Sciences and their Interactions

Adeline Nazarenko is a professor of computer science and a specialist in automatic language processing. Her research focuses on the semantic analysis of texts and information access methods. Recently, her work has focused on the analysis of legal texts and the development of the legal semantic web.

Adeline Nazarenko studied at the École Normale Supérieure and has an agrégation (advanced teaching) diploma in modern literature along with a doctorate in computer science including a thesis at the IBM France Scientific Centre. In 1996, she joined the Laboratory of Computer Science of Paris-North University (LIPN), a laboratory under the joint supervisory authority of the CNRS and Sorbonne Paris-North University. Here she led a research team and directed the university's Computer Science Department. She has taken part in various European projects and supervised the theses of around twenty PhD students. She is committed to inter-disciplinary dialogues and took an active part in creating and launching the 'Empirical Foundations of Linguistics' Laboratory of Excellence.

In 2014, she joined the CNRS Institute for Information Sciences and their Interactions, firstly as a project manager then as its deputy scientific director. She then created the CNRS Mission for Scientific Expertise (MPES) which she directed until her appointment as the Director of the Institute for Information Sciences and their Interactions on February 1st 2023.
