A CNRS laboratory is awarded the 2018 INPI Innovation Trophy for the Category of “Research”

INPI Innovation Trophies are awarded to innovative companies and research centers that distinguish themselves through the exemplary nature of their industrial property strategy. On December 10, the 2018 edition recognized the Laboratoire d’informatique, signaux et systèmes de Sophia Antipolis (I3S – CNRS/Université Côte d’Azur) for its research in digital and computer science. Renown for its simultaneously fundamental and applied research, I3S works on innovative subjects including the development of new control commands for autonomous vehicles such as drones and submarines. This research culminated in the creation of two start-ups led by CNRS researchers. The first, Cintoo, develops technologies that can visualize 3D data from the construction industry or archeological sites. The second, Pixmap, can establish a 3D cartography of an environment in real time, a technique that could be used by robots moving on uneven ground. The laboratory is also working on questions relating to artificial intelligence, with applications that can detect cyberharassment or assist with musical composition. Since the creation of I3S, there have been 9 registered patents, 3 licenses, and 13 new start-ups.
