The CNRS Scientific Board ensures the consistency of the organization’s scientific policy in cooperation with all scientific advisory bodies of the National Committee.

In particular, it advises on the outline of the CNRS scientific policy, the common principles for assessing the quality of research and researchers’ activities, the creation or discontinuation of programs involving one or more institutes, the allocation of financial and human resources among the institutes, programs involving several institutes, shared services, the Strategic Plan and the multi-annual contract between the CNRS and the French government

It also advises on nominations to the scientific boards of the Institutes and can request an opinion from the CNRS Ethics Committee. The chairman of the Scientific Board serves in an advisory capacity on the Board of Trustees.
